Nissan grew up in the tel aviv suburbs in the ‘90s surrounded by the football colture, metal heads, and punks. a son to an italian family of anarchists and musicians, nissan was a part of the attitude as much as it was the landscape. playing guitar on local punk bands and experimenting with street style, everything was very raw is israel these days: the 90's music, skate, terror, and politics.

at the other side of the mediterranean sea, Franky grew up in a suburb of milan. a middle child during the economic boom of italian middle-class, franky was absolutely wild and creative. everything was very diy: graffiti, skate, bmx, emphasize your style, experiment, refuse and disobey.
nissan built himself a reputation as a cyber-security expert. franky worked as photographer with extreme sports brands, musicians and artists. both kept an active life in their local underground scenes shaping their style and creative process.

in the early ‘2000s nissan moved to milan. the scene he found there was different. he arrived with a whole different attitude regarding technology and style of doing business. challenging the traditional italian ways, he introduced new technologies and used the company as his very own research and development lab. in 2008 he started a new experimental product called keepod, an encrypted usb device for large enterprises. nissan was never satisfied, the product changed and evolved in a pure experimental way with no regards to the business processes expected from a tech venture. from these trials and errors the keepod we know today was created.

late 2010, nissan meets franky in a sonic youth concert in milan. a friendship and a vision are instantly formed. franky joined the company and the two spent a few more years making a living in the corporate technology space.

in 2014 the two sow a new oportunity. the two realised how beneficial keepod could be to bridge the digital divide in low-income communities. this was around the same time the two decided they didn’t need to trade in their lifestyle in order to make a living. they dropped everything and traveled to different areas around the world to learn the flaws in the other methods trying to give underdeveloped communities access to technology and gradually built the keepod product based on their experience. a successful crowdfunding campaign got keepod a visibility that exploded on media outlets across the globe. before long, nissan and franky started deploying keepod in different areas experimenting and refining the idea.
fast-forward to today and keepod products are shipping to 25 counties around the world. the project had grown to deliver products that are unique it their approach, style, history and quality. nissan and franky received multiple awards and recognition for their work but more important, their vision is surviving the test of time and proving to be the only sustainable solution to disrupt the costs of pc for low income communities. while big-tech initiatives failed to deliver, keepod continues to innovate and surprise.

and when the collaboration feels right, keepod continues to create experiences with like-minded brands and artists. the hedgehog aesthetic has found its way into give & get collaborations that sponsor charity projects around the world.
it’s been 10 years and what started as a product created to fit the specific needs of privacy and security has grown into a product line that empowers and inspires communities and people all over the world. watch closely over the next 10 years as keepod continues to build its name as the worlds must affordable and private pc for a new generation of technology users.
